Mokaev submitted Gordon via armbar at 4:26 of the third round. ![]() Gordon had decent moments on the feet and twice threatened Mokaev with a rear naked choke, but Muhammad spent most of the fight attacking on the ground from top position and against the fence. The second fight was a Flyweight contest between surging prospect Muhammad Mokaev and Malcolm Gordon. Ben Cartlidge and Darryl Ransom scored the fight 29-27 for Rosa, while David Lethaby scored it as a 28-28 draw (giving R1 to Lansberg). Rosa dominated the second and third rounds with her grappling, but she lost a point in the second for throwing an illegal knee to a grounded Lansberg's head. The first round was fairly close, with the most notable action being a knockdown of Rosa from a Lansberg punch. The prelims opened at 10:30 EST with a Women's Bantamweight fight between Lina Lansberg and Karol Rosa. Notable cancellations include a bout between Strawweight contenders Marina Rodriguez and Amanda Lemos (rescheduled to the November 5 Fight Night and made the main event), Heavyweight bouts with Parker Porter, first against Egyptian wrestler Hamdy Abdelwahab (withdrew due to injury) and Tunisian-French prospect Slim Trabelsi (Trabelsi forced out due to a contract dispute with manager Fenand Lopez), and a Featherweight bout between Zubaira Tukhugov and Lucas Almeida (Tukhugov forced out due to a bad weight cut). ![]() At various points leading up to the event, as many as sixteen fights were scheduled to take place, but only twelve occured on the day of the event. The co-main event was a Bantamweight title fight between reigning Champion Aljamain Sterling and former two-time Bantamweight Champion and #2 Bantamweight contender T.J. The main event was a Lightweight title fight between #1 ranked Lightweight contender and former Lightweight Champion Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira and #4 Lightweight contender and Nurmagomedov disciple Islam Makhachev. 280 was the first and only UFC event held at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, which hosted the first UFC event in the UAE in 2010 and became a popular destination during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. The event took place at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. UFC 280 was a pay per view event put on by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on October 22, 2022. I hope the sport remains untainted, as boxing has become and that passionate fans, such as ourselves can rally cry on for our favorite fighters, cheer, and enjoy this wonderful art of fighting. From LFA to Cage Warriors, CFFC, Bellator, UFC. What I can say is that more important than my bets cashing, or us agreeing on how a fight went, is that we all continue to have that passion for this sport. I think some judges are way more rehearsed in the sport than others and I think that plays a big part of it. So for 30/30 or whatever media members to all see it the same way, is very telling. The judges have been very inconsistent the past 12 to 18 months. In that same breath, I don't care if the media members are judges are not. I acknowledge that even if Yan beat O'Malley's ass pillar to post for all 15 minutes and didn't absorb a single strike back, that when it goes to the cards, all bets are off. I think the rounds were very clear in this fight. No one says anything until the 29-28 becomes a 28-29 or 27-30. ![]() But we see what should be 30-27 fights end up as 29-28 all of the time. A lot of fights we don't notice it because in the end, the right hand is raised. I'm sure they will make more bad decisions this year. And, this won't be the last bad decision they make. I think the Kim/Cachoeira fight to me was egregious. Hell, they have made worse decisions this year. But far too often they have been getting it wrong, as well. And as an olive branch, I think more often than not the judges get it right. Unlike Boxing, an MMA fighter's career isn't crippled with one loss. Had O'Malley done to Yan what Yan did to him and Yan did to O'Malley what O'Malley did to him, this would have gone to O'Malley by UD. It isn't like this is the first time the judges got it wrong.
